36-Year-Old St. Catharines Man Charged with Stunt Driving on Highway 406

The Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) has charged a 36-year-old male from St. Catharines under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) following a high-speed incident in Welland.

On Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at approximately 7:15 a.m., officers observed a black 2016 Ford Escape travelling at a high rate of speed—153 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone—southbound on Highway 406 near Woodlawn Road. The vehicle was stopped by an officer from the TEU.

As a result, the driver was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt, contrary to the HTA. The vehicle was impounded for 14 days, and the driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days. The defendant is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

The NRPS and TEU remind all motorists that excessive speed and dangerous driving behaviours pose serious risks to public safety and will not be tolerated. Drivers engaging in such conduct can expect strict enforcement and significant penalties.
