Ontario is reporting 1,092 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the seven-day average to 1,251.
The Niagara Region reported 27 new cases today, an increase from yesterday’s report of 20.
There were also 10 new deaths reported in the province today. There have been 7,109 COVID-19 deaths in Ontario to date.
Niagara Region reported two new COVID-19 deaths on Thursday. In total, 371 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
“Ontario is reporting 1,092 cases of #COVID19 and over 60,600 tests completed. Locally, there are 293 new cases in Toronto, 199 in Peel and 79 in York Region,” said Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott on Thursday morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher case numbers include Ottawa with 64 new cases, Simcoe-Muskoka with 43 new cases, Windsor with 39 cases, and Hamilton with 38. Other public health units reported 40 cases or less.
Vaccine doses administered in Ontario and Niagara
More than 72,674 vaccine doses were administered in Canada on Thursday bringing the total number of vaccines administered so far across the country to more than 2,693,963. That means that 5.543 per cent of the Canadian population has received at least one dose of the vaccine
Over 40,610 of yesterday’s doses were given in Ontario, for a total of approximately 1,019,407 administered across the province so far. That’s 6.914 per cent of the provincial population.
Approximately 574 new doses were administered as of Thursday morning. A total of 12,534 doses have been administered in the region by Niagara Public Health in long-term care homes and high-risk retirement homes.
A total of 12,534 people have been vaccinated in Niagara Region by Niagara Public Health. Niagara Health says it has administered 21,872 vaccinations to health care staff.
The total number of vaccinations in the region is at 34,406. Against a population of 447,888 (2016 census), that means about 7.682 per cent of the region’s residents have been vaccinated so far.

Region numbers rose slightly above 30 on Saturday when 34 cases were reported. However, this week’s numbers were back below 30.
Case numbers have remained under the daily record of 471 cases on Jan. 11, the largest single-day jump ever seen in the region due in part to a backlog of cases being updated. Numbers also remained below the previous daily record of 196 reported on Friday, Jan. 8.
The death count did not go up over the weekend or the beginning of the week. There were two new deaths reported today. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the Niagara Region to 371.
680 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 313,520 total cases, with 295,128 cases resolved. There are 680 cases in hospitals, with 277 in intensive care and 184 on ventilators.
Hospitalized cases increased by two, the number of those in intensive care decreased by four, and patients on ventilators increased by six since Wednesday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region now at 8,837 with 8,235 resolved. Of those cases, there are 231 active cases, up by seven since Thursday and 24 active outbreaks, up by one since Thursday.
