On September 29, 2023, at 2:33PM, 5 District (Fort Erie) uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) and emergency services personnel responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision in the Town of Fort Erie. While enroute to the scene officers learned that one of the vehicles had left the collision site.
Officers arrived on scene at the intersection of Elm Street and Ridge Road North. The female driver (20s) of a black Jeep Liberty was being treated by Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics and personnel from the Fort Erie Fire Service. The female had serious injuries from the collision and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
During the initial investigation officers located a damaged green 2000 Chrysler Cirrus parked nearby. The driver had run from the car. Officers and an NRPS K9 Unit searched the area but did not locate the suspect.
5 District detectives were assigned to the investigation. The ongoing investigation determined the identity of the driver and that the car had been stolen from a family member at a Fort Erie home earlier in the day. 5 District officers and detectives continued to search for the suspect.
On October 2, 203 the suspect returned to his families’ Fort Erie home and stole a 2000 Yamaha Venture motorcycle. On October 3, 2023, the motorcycle was found abandoned in the middle of the street near Burbank Trail and Lindberg Drive, in the Town of Fort Erie.
On October 3, 2023, the suspect was located by NRPS officers in Fort Erie and arrested. A 13-year-old male from Fort Erie has been arrested and charged with the Criminal Code offences of:
Theft of Motor Vehicle (2 Counts) Fail to Stop at the Scene of an Accident Cause Bodily Harm
The 13-year-old was held in custody for a video bail hearing to the Welland Courthouse that occurred on October 4, 2023. He was ordered held in custody. His next court date is October 6, 2023.
The Youth Criminal Justice Act of Canada prohibits the Niagara Region Police Service from releasing the identity of the accused.
