Cyclist Struck. Driver Arrested – Niagara on the Lake

On October 15, 2023, at 7:19pm 2 District (Niagara Falls / Niagara on the Lake) uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of a cyclist having been struck by an SUV in Niagara on the Lake.  The SUV had left the scene.

Officers attended the scene at Lakeshore Road and Townline Road and found a 40-year-old male cyclist being treated by Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics for a serious injury.   The man was transported to an out of region hospital for further care.

The initial investigation determined that a 1999 black Jeep was travelling on Townline Road when it suddenly collided with the cyclist who was travelling on Lakeshore Road (at the intersection). The cyclist fell from his bicycle onto the roadway.   The driver continued along Lakeshore Road, returned through the scene, and then left the area.   While officers were investigating the collision the driver returned to the scene on foot.   Officers formed grounds to believe the driver had consumed alcohol and the driver was arrested.

Amanda M. Boyle (50 years) of St. Catharines has been arrested and charged with the Criminal Code offence of:

Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle – Cause Bodily Harm

Boyle was later released on a Form 10 Undertaking with a future court date.  The Jeep has been impounded.  She has been issued an Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS).  The ADLS, which is issued to everyone charged with similar driving offences.  The ADLS prohibits Boyle from operating a motor vehicle for 90 days from date it was issued.
