On December 22, 2023, at 2:41pm 3 District (Welland / Pelham) uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to an assist ambulance call in Welland.
Officers and emergency personnel from Niagara Emergency Medical Services (NEMS) attended Memorial Park for an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) collision. Officers arrived on scene and found a 9-year-old boy and a 46-year-old man (father) from Welland suffering from injuries. They were both treated by NEMS paramedics and transported to out of region hospitals. The adult man’s injuries are believed to be life threatening. The boy has since been released from hospital.
The initial investigation determined that the two males had been on an ATV being operated by the 46-year-old man when it lost control and rolled.
The investigation has been assigned to detectives from the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit (RECON); they are being assisted by the NRPS Forensic Services Unit.
The circumstance of the incident remains under investigation. Portions of Memorial Drive and Memorial Park have been closed during the investigation. The Park and Memorial Drive are expected to be re-opened near 10:00pm.
