Civic Holiday R.I.D.E. Checks in Niagara

On Friday, August 1, 2025, uniformed officers of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) conducted R.I.D.E. spot checks throughout the Niagara region with checks in Port Colborne, Welland, St.Catharines and Niagara Falls.

Over the course of the evening, officers stopped approximately 397 vehicles to check for alcohol and drug impairment. Of those, about 12 drivers were required to provide a roadside breath sample.

397 vehicles stopped 12 drivers required roadside breath tests 1 driver charged with impaired operation (over legal BAC limit) 1 driver received a 3-day license suspension due to a breath test “Alert” 16 traffic-related Provincial Offence Notices issued

The Niagara Regional Police Service remains committed to reducing impaired driving offences through education and the apprehension of offenders through enforcement programs like R.I.D.E.

Impaired driving remains the leading criminal offence causing death in Canada.
