Ontario reported 1,824 new COVID-19 cases today. That number is usually inflated because the London-Middlesex health unit reported 127 which includes cases it misreported over the last three days.
London-Middlesex’s larger than usual report comes due to a data processing error that failed to report some cases in the previous three days. Yesterday it reported zero cases, “-10” cases the day before, and 14 new cases three days ago.
Regardless of today’s inflated number, the province has been reporting for several days of case numbers above the 1,700 mark.
Also, 14 more people have died due to COVID-19. Yesterday there were 35 deaths. Most of the patients who died were residents of long-term care homes. The total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the province is now 3,712. There were no new deaths reported today in Niagara. In total, 85 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
The Niagara Region reported 30 cases today, an increase from yesterday’s report of 20 cases.
“Ontario is reporting 1,824 cases of #COVID19. Locally, there are 592 new cases in Peel, 396 in Toronto and 187 in York Region. There are 1,541 more resolved cases and nearly 52,900 tests completed,” said Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter this morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher case numbers include Waterloo with 87 new cases, Halton Region with 68 cases, Windsor with 62 new cases, Durham Region with 57 cases, and Hamilton with 56 new cases. Other public health units reported 45 cases or less.
Niagara Region reports 30 cases today after reporting cases below 30 since the spike of cases seen last weekend with 36 cases reported on Saturday. This was the highest daily case count since Nov. 10 when the region saw a new record high of 63 cases.
666 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 121,746 total cases, with 103,239 cases resolved. There are currently 666 cases in hospitals, with 195 in intensive care and 107 on ventilators.
Hospitalized cases increased by 10, the number of those in intensive care increased by nine and patients on ventilators increased by one since yesterday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region is now at 2,211 with 1,916 resolved. Of those cases, there are 210 active cases, increasing by one since yesterday and 16 active outbreaks, same as yesterday.
