On Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at approximately 9:45 AM, uniform officers with The Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) responded to the parking lot of a plaza at the corner of Welland Avenue and Bunting Road for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
Officers found an 85-year-old, St Catharines man with injuries after he was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot. That male was taken to an area hospital with what is considered to be life threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was determined to be an off duty NRPS officer.
In accordance with the potential or perceived conflict of interest provisions within the Community Safety and Policing Act regulations, the NRPS has requested the Hamilton Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit take carriage of the investigation.
The parking lot will be closed while Hamilton Police conduct their investigation.
