Male Injured in St. Catharines Shooting

St. Catharines – The Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) are actively investigating a shooting that has occurred in St. Catharines in the area of Vine Street and Old Pine Trail.  There is a heavy police presence in the area. Police are asking for members of the public to stay clear.

At approximately 10:20 PM, uniform officers from 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) were dispatched to a plaza on the corner of Vine Street and Old Pine Trail for reports that a male had been shot.  Officers arrived on scene and found a 26-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound.  That male has been taken to a out of region trauma centre for treatment of injuries.  Those injuries are considered to be critical but not life threatening.

Early information is that two male suspects are involved.  Both suspects were wearing masks.  No other suspect description is available at this time.  Updates will be made available once accurate information is obtained.

1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB) has taken carriage of this active investigation.  Detectives believe that this was a targeted incident and do not believe there is an ongoing risk to the public at this time.

The scene is expected to be held for several hours for the Forensic Services Unit (FSU) to process
