On October 1, 2023, at 2:25am 1 District (St. Catharines / Thorold) uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a disturbance / fight call in downtown St. Catharines.
Officers attended a parking garage around Ontario Street and St. Paul Street. Officers arriving on scene found a man fighting and striking different people in the area. Officers attempted to arrest the man for assault, but he resisted. Officers deployed a conducted energy weapon (AKA Taser) during the arrest. The officers on scene were eventually able to subdue and handcuff the man.
Following the arrest, further investigation determined that the man in custody had randomly approached to adult woman in the parking garage and exposed his genitalia. When the women verbally expressed their anger, he repeatedly punched both of them. A woman and two men walking in the garage attempted to intervene and they too were punched/attacked. Officers arrived around this time and arrested the man.
While the man was being transported by Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics to hospital to be assessed; he kicked a paramedic. The man was seen in hospital and was medically cleared at 9:27am. He was transported to the NRPS Prisoner Management Unit in Niagara Falls.
Physical injuries to the victims are believed to be minor.
Anthony Joseph Ferracuti (22 yrs.) of Etobicoke was arrested and charged with the Criminal Code offences of:
Indecent Act Assault (6 Counts) Resist Arrest
Ferracuti was held in custody by NRPS officers for a video bail hearing to the John Sopinka Courthouse in Hamilton on October 1, 2023. He was subsequently released with a future St. Catharines court date of October 30, 2023.
