NRPS Arrest Driver Following Port Colborne Crash

On Tuesday January 2, 2024, at 2:50pm 6 District (Port Colborne/ Wainfleet) uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of a single vehicle roll over crash in Port Colborne.

Officers arrived on scene with Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics and Port Colborne Fire Service. Emergency services personnel located a blue 2017 Volkswagen off the roadway in a ditch near the intersection of Welland Street and Killaly Street East. The driver was found behind the wheel needing to be extricated from the car. The driver (lone occupant) of the car was treated for what is believed to be nonlife threatening injuries and transported to a local hospital.

The initial investigation determined the driver had been travelling northbound on Welland Street and lost control and then became airborne. The vehicle landed approximately 200 meters north of the initial curb it struck. The vehicle rolled two to three times and came to a stop in a ditch.

During the investigation officers formed grounds to believe that the driver was impaired by alcohol and placed him under arrest.  Wade W. Crawford (55 yrs.) of Port Colborne has been arrested and charged with the Criminal Code offences of:

Impaired Operation of Conveyance Operation of Conveyance Over 80 mg

Crawford was later released from custody at the hospital on a Form 9 Appearance Notice with a future court date. He has also been issued an Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS). The ADLS, is issued to everyone charged with similar driving offences. The ADLS prohibits Crawford from operating a motor vehicle for 90 days from date it was issued.
