NRPS Investigating After St. Catharines Crossing Guard Struck by a Vehicle

On September 5, 2023 at 3:15pm 1 District (St. Catharines / Thorold) uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) and emergency services personnel responded to a report of a serious collision in St. Catharines.

Officers attended the intersection of Haig Street and Carlton Street in St. Catharines. Emergency Services personnel were tending to a 79-year-old female crossing guard (St. Catharines) that had been standing on the corner when she was struck by a grey 2020 Ford F150 pick up truck. The crossing guard was subsequently trapped under the Ford. Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics and St. Catharines Fire service personnel worked to free the crossing guard. She was transported to an out of region hospital for further treatment of what is believed to be serious injuries but nonlife threatening injuries.

The intersection and portions of Haig Street was closed during the investigation.

The Ministry of Labour has been notified.
