Ontario reported 746 new COVID-19 cases today and over 2,200 new cases over Thanksgiving weekend. The Niagara Region reported over 40 this weekend.
In Niagara on Saturday there were 16 new cases. On Sunday there were eight new cases. There are 16 cases reported on Thanksgiving Monday. There was one new case reported today.
“Today, Ontario is reporting 746 cases of #COVID19 with 807 cases on Monday. Combined over the same two days, there are 1,292 more resolved cases with over 67,700 tests completed. Locally, there are 311 new cases in Toronto, 135 in Peel and 116 in Ottawa today,” said Health Minister Christine Elliott on Twitter this morning.
On the weekend, the province reported a total of 2,265 new cases, with Niagara Region reporting 40.
There were 11 new deaths reported over the weekend in Ontario. There were seven new deaths on Saturday, one on Sunday, and three on Monday. There were nine new deaths reported today, the highest daily new death count since Jul. 17 when nine deaths were reported.
There were no new deaths reported in the Niagara Region.
The Niagara Region reported saw a slight spike in numbers over the weekend as the total number of cases surpassed 1,200. Cases have remained below 20 since Sept. 27, with most numbers ranging from nine to 12 cases. On Saturday and Monday, numbers were above this range with the 16 cases reported on both days. However, today’s report of one cases is the lowest daily case count reported since Sept. 23 when one case was reported.
Ontario has now had 60,692 total cases, with 51,729 cases resolved. There have been 3,017 deaths. There are currently 230 cases in hospitals, with 60 in intensive care and 34 on ventilators.
Ontario continues to see a rise in COVID-19 cases in hospitals. Hospitalized cases increased by five, the number of those in intensive care increased by 13 and those on ventilators increased by five since Friday.
Highest number of hospitalized cases reported since June
Throughout August and the beginning of September, hospitalized cases generally remained below 100. In the summer months, those numbers varied but tended to stay below 200. Today’s report has launched these numbers well above 200. This is the highest number the province has seen since Jun. 20 when 232 hospitalized cases were reported.
The total number of confirmed cases as of Sunday in the Niagara Region is now at 1,214 with 1,050 resolved. Of those cases, there are 99 active cases, dropping 33 since yesterday and eight active outbreaks. There have been 65 deaths.
