The circumstances surrounding the injury to a 58-year-old taxi driver in St. Catharines remains under investigation.
On September 23, 2023, at 4:43am 1 District (St. Catharines / Thorold) uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to an assist ambulance on Eastchester Avenue near Lorne Street in St. Catharines. A taxi driver had been found on the ground beside his parked taxi. The taxi door was open and in the roadway. The driver was unconscious suffering from a critical injury. He was transported to an out of region hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Detectives are appealing to anyone (residents or businesses) in the area with closed circuit security cameras, doorbell video cameras, or dash cameras are asked to review their footage for suspicious activity for the period between 3:00am and 5:00am on September 23, 2023. The taxicab was a silver Toyota Camry.
This is an active and ongoing investigation to determine the circumstances around this incident. The scene is no longer being held.
