Two Male Youths Arrested Following Stabbing in Pelham

On September 21, 2023, at 8:33pm two off duty Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers were driving in the area of Highway 20 East and Rice Road in the Town of Pelham.

The officers came across three males fighting. The officers pulled over and intervened. In doing so they discovered that one of the males had multiple stab wounds. 911 was called, the victim received first aid and, the suspects were detained.

Emergency services personnel responded to the scene. 3 District (Welland / Pelham) uniform officers from the NRPS arrested the two suspects. Niagara Emergency Medical Services (NEMS) paramedics tended to the 19-year-old male victim. The victim was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries and was later flown to an out of region hospital. One of the suspects was also transported to a local hospital for minor injuries sustained in the fight.

Officers have arrested and charged two youth males.

A 16-year-old male from Kitchener is charged with the Criminal Code offences of:

Assault Cause Bodily Harm Fail to Comply with Probation

A 16-year-old male from St. Catharines is charged with the Criminal Code offence of:

Assault with a Weapon

Both males were held in custody for a video bail hearing to the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on September 22, 2023.

The victim and the arrested males were known to each other prior to this incident.

The Youth Criminal Justice Act of Canada prohibits the Niagara Region Police Service from releasing the identity of the accused persons.
