Ontario reported 255 new cases today, down from yesterday’s report of 296. This brings the seven-day average to 316.
Meanwhile, the Niagara Region reported 10 new cases today, up from yesterday’s report of seven.
There were also 11 new deaths reported in the province today. There have been 9,093 COVID-19 deaths in Ontario to date.
Niagara Region reported one new death today. In total, 413 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
“Ontario is reporting 255 cases of #COVID19 and nearly 27,400 tests completed. Locally, there are 57 new cases in Toronto, 53 in the Region of Waterloo, 25 in Peel Region, 23 in the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit region and 14 in Ottawa,” said Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott on Wednesday morning.
Vaccine doses administered in Ontario and Niagara
More than 384,844 vaccine doses were administered in Canada on Wednesday bringing the total number of vaccines administered across the country to more than 33,452,239. That means that 66.337 per cent of the Canadian population has received at least one dose of the vaccine. Approximately 21.392 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated.
Over 227,318 of yesterday’s doses were given in Ontario, for a total of approximately 13,096,628 administered across the province so far. There are 3,343,744 people fully vaccinated. That’s about 22.677 per cent of the provincial population.
Niagara Health reported 6,617 new doses were administered as of Wednesday morning.
A total of 151,236 doses have been administered in the region by Niagara Public Health in long-term care homes and high-risk retirement homes as of Wednesday.
The total number of vaccinations in the region is at 403,333. Against a population of 447,888 (2016 census), 65.1 per cent of the region’s residents have received at least one vaccination and 19.1 per cent are fully vaccinated.

COVID cases remained under 15 over the weekend with seven cases on Saturday and 14 cases on Sunday. There were nine cases reported on Monday, seven reported on Tuesday, and 10 on Wednesday.
Case numbers have remained under the daily record of 471 cases on Jan. 11, the largest single-day jump ever seen in the region due in part to a backlog of cases being updated. However, numbers surpassed the previous daily record of 196 reported on Jan. 8.
No new COVID-19 related deaths have been reported over the weekend. One new death was reported on Tuesday and another on Wednesday. Since the start of the pandemic, the COVID-19 death count in the region is 413.
295 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 543,019 total cases, with 530,894 cases resolved. There are 295 cases in hospitals, with 305 in intensive care, and 190 on ventilators.
Hospitalized cases decreased by 39, and the number of those in intensive care decreased by nine, and the number of those on ventilators decreased by 12 since Tuesday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region now at 16,155 with 15,539 resolved. Of those cases, there are 203 active cases, down by 12 since Tuesday, and nine active outbreaks, same as Tuesday.
