Fort Erie Traffic Stops Leads to Arrest and Drug Seizure

On February 10, 2022, at approximately 9:45PM a 5 District Fort Erie uniform officer from the Niagara Regional Police Service was on patrol in the Town of Fort Erie.

The officer conducted a traffic stop of a black 2021 Dodge Charger in the area of Garrison Road and King Street in Fort Erie for a Highway Traffic Act of Ontario moving violation.

During the course of the traffic stop the driver was found to have an open bottle of beer concealed in his coat. A subsequent search of the vehicle to locate any other open alcohol located bullets and approximately 100 small zip lock bags. 

The driver was found to be prohibited by law from possessing weapons (ammunition included).  The driver was arrested.

A further search of the driver jacket following his arrest located a large quantity of Fentanyl, Cocaine, Crystal-Meth and Oxycodone.  The estimated street value of the drugs seized was $57000.

Officers also seized $1870 as suspected proceeds of crime.

Robert William Buchanan (69 years) of St. Catharines has been arrested and charged with the criminal offences of:

Possession for the purpose of trafficking (Fentanyl) s. 5(2) CDSA Possession for the purpose of trafficking (Crystal Methamphetamine) s. 5(2) CDSA Possession for the purpose of trafficking (Cocaine) s. 5(2) CDSA Possession for the purpose of trafficking (Oxycodone) s. 5(2) CDSA Possession of proceeds obtained by crime s. 354(1) CC Fail to signal for turn contrary to s. 142(1) HTA Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor s. 32(1) LLA

Buchanan was held in custody for a video bail hearing at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse on February 11, 2022.
