On Saturday, June 28, 2025, members of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) conducted R.I.D.E. spot checks in St.Catharines and Niagara Falls.
Over the course of the evening, officers stopped approximately 500 vehicles to check for alcohol and drug impairment. Of those, about 20 drivers were required to provide a roadside breath sample. 3 drivers provided a sample resulting in an “Alert” which subsequently results in an automatic Driver’s Licence suspension for a period of 3 days.
One driver fled from police after being asked to comply with demands. That individual has been identified and is currently wanted for Flight from Police, Dangerous Operation, and Drive While Under Suspension.
Several additional Provincial Offence Notices (tickets) were issued for various traffic-related infractions.
The Niagara Regional Police Service remains committed to reducing impaired driving offences through education and the apprehension of offenders through enforcement programs like R.I.D.E.
Impaired driving remains the leading criminal offence causing death in Canada.
This initiative has been made possible, in part, as a result of grant funding from the Ministry of the Solicitor General as part of the Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program.
