Ontario is reporting 1,038 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the seven-day average to 1,016.
The Niagara Region reported 3 new cases today, the lowest daily case count since October. Niagara Region remians in the Grey-Lockdown tier of the province’s COVID-19 recovery framework at least until Feb 20 when it will be reviewed.
There were also 44 new deaths reported in the province today. There have been 6,773 COVID-19 deaths in Ontario to date.
Niagara Region reported one new COVID-19 death on Thursday. In total, 363 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
“Ontario is reporting 1,038 cases of #COVID19 and nearly 56,200 tests completed. Locally, there are 376 new cases in Toronto, 142 in Peel and 122 in York Region,” said Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott on Thursday morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher case numbers include Hamilton with 49 new cases, Simcoe-Muskoka with 45 new cases, Waterloo with 43 cases, and Windsor with 41. Other public health units reported 40 cases or less.
Vaccine doses administered in Ontario and Niagara
More than 16,599 vaccine doses were administered in Canada on Tuesday bringing the total number of vaccines administered so far across the country to more than 1,343,864. That means that 2.606 per cent of the Canadian population has received at least one dose of the vaccine
Over 12,383 of yesterday’s doses were given in Ontario, for a total of approximately 501,867 administered across the province so far. That’s 3.404 per cent of the provincial population.
Approximately 182 new doses were administered as of Tuesday morning. A total of 8,694 doses have been administered in the region by Niagara Public Health in long-term care homes and high-risk retirement homes.
A total of 8,694 people have been vaccinated in Niagara Region by Niagara Public Health. Niagara Health says it has administered 2,417 vaccinations to health care staff.
The total number of vaccinations in the region is at 11,111. Against a population of 447,888 (2016 census), that means about 2.481 per cent of the region’s residents have been vaccinated so far.
Niagara Region trends
The Niagara Region numbers remain under 50 per day over the weekend and so far this week, reaching the lowest daily case count since Oct. 13 when one case was reported with Thursday’s report of three.
Case numbers have remained under the daily record of 471 cases on Jan. 11, the largest single-day jump ever seen in the region due in part to a backlog of cases being updated. Numbers also remained below the previous daily record of 196 reported on Friday, Jan. 8.
The death count went up by three over the weekend, by one on Wednesday, and by one on Thursday. This brings the total number of deaths to 363. Deaths are reported three times per week by NRPH on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
758 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 289,621 total cases, with 272,146 cases resolved. There are 758 cases in hospitals, with 277 in intensive care and 192 on ventilators.
Hospitalized cases increased by 29, the number of those in intensive care decreased by 21, and patients on ventilators decreased by 19 since Monday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region now at 8,402 with 7,752 resolved. Of those cases, there are 287 active cases, decreasing by 36 since Wednesday and 23 active outbreaks, down by three since Wednesday.
