Ontario is reporting 1,138 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the seven-day average to 1,099.
The Niagara Region reported 12 new cases today, the same as yesterday.
There were also 23 new deaths reported in the province today. There have been 6,916 COVID-19 deaths in Ontario to date.
Niagara Region reported one new COVID-19 deaths on Thursday. In total, 370 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
“Ontario is reporting 1,138 cases of #COVID19 and nearly 66,400 tests completed. Locally, there are 339 new cases in Toronto, 204 in Peel and 106 in York Region,” said Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott on Thursday morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher case numbers include Ottawa with 64 new cases, Waterloo with 56 new cases, Halton Region with 40 cases, and Hamilton with 37. Other public health units reported 35 cases or less.
Vaccine doses administered in Ontario and Niagara
More than 33,105 vaccine doses were administered in Canada on Tuesday bringing the total number of vaccines administered so far across the country to more than 1,681,560. That means that 3.147 per cent of the Canadian population has received at least one dose of the vaccine
Over 19,112 of yesterday’s doses were given in Ontario, for a total of approximately 621,960 administered across the province so far. That’s 4.218 per cent of the provincial population.
Approximately 283 new doses were administered as of Monday morning. A total of 10,011 doses have been administered in the region by Niagara Public Health in long-term care homes and high-risk retirement homes.
A total of 10,011 people have been vaccinated in Niagara Region by Niagara Public Health. Niagara Health says it has administered 8,113 vaccinations to health care staff.
The total number of vaccinations in the region is at 18,124. Against a population of 447,888 (2016 census), that means about 4.047 per cent of the region’s residents have been vaccinated so far.

numbers remain under 30 per day over the weekend and so far this week dropping to nine on Monday, the lowest daily case count since last Thursday when three cases were reported. This was the lowest case count since Oct. 13 when one case was reported.
Case numbers have remained under the daily record of 471 cases on Jan. 11, the largest single-day jump ever seen in the region due in part to a backlog of cases being updated. Numbers also remained below the previous daily record of 196 reported on Friday, Jan. 8.
The death count went up by one over the weekend, by three on Tuesday, and by one on Thursday. No new deaths were reported today. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the Niagara Region to 370.
687 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 297,311 total cases, with 280,324 cases resolved. There are 687 cases in hospitals, with 283 in intensive care and 182 on ventilators.
Hospitalized cases increased by 13, the number of those in intensive care decreased by four, and patients on ventilators remained the same since Wednesday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region now at 8,525 with 7,904 resolved. Of those cases, there are 251 active cases, decreasing by five since Wednesday and 18 active outbreaks, down by one since Wednesday.
