Small women-owned businesses are getting a boost at area Sobeys stores just in time for International Women’s Day.

Until March 8, Fab Female Local Boxes will be available for purchase featuring 17 different products ranging from granola, tea and popcorn to things like hand cleaners, lip balm and reusable masks. All products are sourced from Ontario businesses owned by women, including some from Niagara.

The box is the product of a collaboration between Sobeys Inc. and Nature Knows Inc.

“As a local woman-owned and sustainable company, we know more than anyone how important it is to support our fellow entrepreneurs,” said Andrea Watson, cofounder and CEO of Nature Knows.

Provisions Food company is a Beamsville-based gourmet food brand that focuses food for “happy hour, entertainment and sharing as a gift.”

The company was founded in 2012 by Lori McDonald. Provision’s peach and Prosecco sparkling jam is one the items included in the box.

“It just makes me feel really proud that we are putting out such a great product, and that we get some recognition for being women in the food industry,” McDonald said. Her advice to women entrepreneurs: “find something that you’re really passionate about and just stick with it. It’s not always easy, but it’s so rewarding.”

In Niagara, boxes sell for $34.99 and are available at Sobeys locations in Fonthill, Fort Erie, Niagara Falls and St. Catharines.
