Ontario reported 1,631 new COVID-19 cases on Monday and 2,289 cases over the weekend. The Niagara Region reported 20 new cases on Monday and 57 cases over the weekend.
Across the province, there were 990 new cases reported on Saturday and on Sunday there were 1,299.
Niagara Region reported 34 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday and 23 on Sunday.
There were six new deaths reported on Saturday in the province, 15 deaths reported on Sunday, and 10 reported today. There have been 7,077 COVID-19 deaths in Ontario to date.
The Niagara Region reported no new deaths over the weekend. In total, 369 people have died from the virus in the region.
“Ontario is reporting 1,631 cases of #COVID19 and nearly 38,100 tests completed. Locally, there are 568 new cases in Toronto, 322 in Peel and 119 in York Region,” said Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier of Ontario and Minister of Health, on Twitter Monday morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher case numbers include Durham Region with 68 new cases, Ottawa with 57 cases, Halton Region with 51 cases, and Waterloo with 51. Other public health units reported 50 cases or less.
Vaccine doses administered in Ontario and Niagara
More than 39,569 vaccine doses were administered in Canada on Monday bringing the total number of vaccines administered so far across the country to more than 2,426,758. That means that 4.891 per cent of the Canadian population has received at least one dose of the vaccine
Over 21,882 of yesterday’s doses were given in Ontario, for a total of approximately 912,486 administered across the province so far. That’s 6.188 per cent of the provincial population.
Approximately 101 new doses were administered as of Monday morning. A total of 11,828 doses have been administered in the region by Niagara Public Health in long-term care homes and high-risk retirement homes.
A total of 11,828 people have been vaccinated in Niagara Region by Niagara Public Health. Niagara Health says it has administered 16,660 vaccinations to health care staff.
The total number of vaccinations in the region is at 28,488. Against a population of 447,888 (2016 census), that means about 6.361 per cent of the region’s residents have been vaccinated so far.

Region numbers remain rose slightly above 30 on Saturday when 34 cases were reported. However, Sunday and Monday’s numbers were back below 30.
Case numbers have remained under the daily record of 471 cases on Jan. 11, the largest single-day jump ever seen in the region due in part to a backlog of cases being updated. Numbers also remained below the previous daily record of 196 reported on Friday, Jan. 8.
The death count did not go up over the weekend. No new deaths were reported today. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the Niagara Region to 369.
626 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 309,927 total cases, with 291,834 cases resolved. There are 626 cases in hospitals, with 282 in intensive care and 184 on ventilators.
Hospitalized cases decreased by 17, the number of those in intensive care increased by two, and patients on ventilators increased by one since Friday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region now at 8,764 with 8,186 resolved. Of those cases, there are 209 active cases, up by 38 since Friday and 21 active outbreaks, up by four since Friday.
