Ontario is reporting 1,371 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the seven-day average to 1,269.
The Niagara Region reported 28 new cases today, a slight increase from yesterday’s report of 27.
There were also 18 new deaths reported in the province today. There have been 7,127 COVID-19 deaths in Ontario to date.
Niagara Region reported two new COVID-19 deaths on Friday. In total, 373 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
“Ontario is reporting 1,371 cases of #COVID19 and over 64,600 tests completed. Locally, there are 371 new cases in Toronto, 225 in Peel, 111 in York Region and 109 in Hamilton,” said Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott on Friday morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher case numbers include Ottawa with 83 new cases, Thunder Bay with 52 new cases, Simcoe-Muskoka with 43 cases, and Windsor with 39. Other public health units reported 40 cases or less.
Vaccine doses administered in Ontario and Niagara
More than 74,975 vaccine doses were administered in Canada on Friday bringing the total number of vaccines administered so far across the country to more than 2,794,292. That means that 5.802 per cent of the Canadian population has received at least one dose of the vaccine
Over 43,503 of yesterday’s doses were given in Ontario, for a total of approximately 1,062,910 administered across the province so far. That’s 7.209 per cent of the provincial population.
Approximately 630 new doses were administered as of Friday morning. A total of 13,165 doses have been administered in the region by Niagara Public Health in long-term care homes and high-risk retirement homes.
A total of 13,165 people have been vaccinated in Niagara Region by Niagara Public Health. Niagara Health says it has administered 23,090 vaccinations to health care staff.
The total number of vaccinations in the region is at 36,255. Against a population of 447,888 (2016 census), that means about 8.095 per cent of the region’s residents have been vaccinated so far.

Region numbers rose slightly above 30 on Saturday when 34 cases were reported. However, this week’s numbers were back below 30.
Case numbers have remained under the daily record of 471 cases on Jan. 11, the largest single-day jump ever seen in the region due in part to a backlog of cases being updated. Numbers also remained below the previous daily record of 196 reported on Friday, Jan. 8.
The death count did not go up over the weekend or the beginning of the week. There were two new deaths reported on Thursday and two new deaths reported on Friday. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the Niagara Region to 373.
676 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 314,891 total cases, with 296,252 cases resolved. There are 676 cases in hospitals, with 282 in intensive care and 189 on ventilators.
Hospitalized cases decreased by four, the number of those in intensive care increased by five, and patients on ventilators increased by five since Thursday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region now at 8,865 with 8,252 resolved. Of those cases, there are 240 active cases, up by nine since Thursday and 27 24 active outbreaks, up by three since Thursday.
