Ontario reported 1,268 new COVID-19 cases on Monday and 3,215 cases over the weekend. The Niagara Region reported 29 new cases on Monday and 60 cases over the weekend.
Across the province, there were 1,468 new cases reported on Saturday, and on Sunday there were 1,747.
Niagara Region reported 27 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday and 33 on Sunday.
There were 11 new deaths reported on Saturday in the province, 15 deaths reported on Sunday, and nine reported today. There have been 7,162 COVID-19 deaths in Ontario to date.
The Niagara Region reported no new deaths over the weekend. In total, 373 people have died from the virus in the region.
“Ontario is reporting 1,268 cases of #COVID19 and nearly 34,000 tests completed. Locally, there are 366 new cases in Toronto, 220 in Peel and 147 in York Region,” said Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier of Ontario and Minister of Health, on Twitter Monday morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher case numbers include Hamilton with 71 new cases, Thunder Bay with 61, Ottawa with 57 cases, Durham Region with 53 cases, and Waterloo with 51. Other public health units reported 50 cases or less.
Vaccine doses administered in Ontario and Niagara
More than 63,340 vaccine doses were administered in Canada on Monday bringing the total number of vaccines administered so far across the country to more than 3,090,005. That means that 6.557 per cent of the Canadian population has received at least one dose of the vaccine
Over 33,198 of yesterday’s doses were given in Ontario, for a total of approximately 1,191,553 administered across the province so far. That’s 8.081 per cent of the provincial population.
Approximately 36 new doses were administered as of Monday morning. A total of 13,286 doses have been administered in the region by Niagara Public Health in long-term care homes and high-risk retirement homes.
A total of 13,286 people have been vaccinated in Niagara Region by Niagara Public Health. Niagara Health says it has administered 24,364 vaccinations to health care staff.
The total number of vaccinations in the region is at 37,650. Against a population of 447,888 (2016 census), that means about 8.406 per cent of the region’s residents have been vaccinated so far.

Region numbers rose slightly above 30 on Sunday when 33 cases were reported. However, Saturday and Monday’s numbers were back below 30.
Case numbers have remained under the daily record of 471 cases on Jan. 11, the largest single-day jump ever seen in the region due in part to a backlog of cases being updated. Numbers also remained below the previous daily record of 196 reported on Friday, Jan. 8.
The death count did not go up over the weekend. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the Niagara Region to 373.
699 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 319,374 total cases, with 299,684 cases resolved. There are 699 cases in hospitals, with 298 in intensive care and 187 on ventilators.
Hospitalized cases increased by 23, the number of those in intensive care increased by 16, and patients on ventilators decreased by two since Friday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region now at 8,953 with 8,315 resolved. Of those cases, there are 265 active cases, up by 25 since Friday and 27 active outbreaks, stayed the same since Friday.
