Ontario reported 1,546 new cases of COVID-19 today, bringing the seven-day average to 1,667.
The Niagara Region reported 42 new cases today, an increase from yesterday’s report of 27.
There were also nine new deaths reported in the province today. There have been 7,253 COVID-19 deaths in Ontario to date.
Niagara Region reported no new COVID-19 deaths on Tuesday. In total, 374 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
“Ontario is reporting 1,546 cases of #COVID19 and nearly 32,600 tests completed. Locally, there are 465 new cases in Toronto, 329 in Peel and 161 in York Region,” said Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott on Tuesday morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher case numbers include Durham Region with 99 new cases, Halton Region with 64 new cases, Ottawa with 58 cases, and Hamilton with 57. Other public health units reported 55 cases or less.
Vaccine doses administered in Ontario and Niagara
More than 85,067 vaccine doses were administered in Canada on Tuesday bringing the total number of vaccines administered so far across the country to more than 4,185,625. That means that 9.340 per cent of the Canadian population has received at least one dose of the vaccine
Over 50,659 of yesterday’s doses were given in Ontario, for a total of approximately 1,603,699 administered across the province so far. That’s 10.876 per cent of the provincial population.
Niagara Health reported 460 new doses were administered as of Tuesday morning.
A total of 17,358 doses have been administered in the region by Niagara Public Health in long-term care homes and high-risk retirement homes.

The total number of vaccinations in the region is at 51,829. Against a population of 447,888 (2016 census), that means about 11.572 per cent of the region’s residents have been vaccinated so far.

Region numbers rose slightly above 30 on Saturday and remained back below 30 on Sunday and Monday. Tuesday’s numbers are back above 30 with 42 cases reported.
Case numbers have remained under the daily record of 471 cases on Jan. 11, the largest single-day jump ever seen in the region due in part to a backlog of cases being updated. Numbers also remained below the previous daily record of 196 reported on Friday, Jan. 8.
One new COVID-19 related death has been reported over the weekend. No new deaths were reported today. The death count measured since the start of the pandemic is 374.
868 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 332,119 total cases, with 309,849 cases resolved. There are 868 cases in hospitals, with 324 in intensive care and 193 on ventilators.
Hospitalized cases increased by 55, the number of those in intensive care increased by 26, and patients on ventilators increased by seven since Monday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region now at 9,252 with 8,529 resolved. Of those cases, there are 349 active cases, up by seven since Monday and 19 active outbreaks, down same as Monday.
