Ontario reported 2,336 new cases of COVID-19 today, bringing the seven-day average to 2,094.
The Niagara Region reported 65 new cases today, an increase from yesterday’s report of 40.
There were also 10 new deaths reported in the province today. There have been 7,351 COVID-19 deaths in Ontario to date.
Niagara Region reported new COVID-19 deaths on Tuesday. In total, 375 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
“Ontario is reporting 2,336 cases of #COVID19 and nearly 36,100 tests completed. Locally, there are 727 new cases in Toronto, 434 in Peel, 229 in York Region, 194 in Durham, 144 in Ottawa and 123 in Hamilton,” said Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott on Tuesday morning.
Public health units in Ontario also reporting higher case numbers include Halton Region with 91 new cases, Niagara with 63 new cases, and Simcoe-Muskoka with 39 cases. Other public health units reported 40 cases or less.
Vaccine doses administered in Ontario and Niagara
More than 121,263 vaccine doses were administered in Canada on Tuesday bringing the total number of vaccines administered so far across the country to more than 5,422,497. That means that 12.488 per cent of the Canadian population has received at least one dose of the vaccine.
Over 70,645 of yesterday’s doses were given in Ontario, for a total of approximately 2,102,380 administered across the province so far. That’s 14.258 per cent of the provincial population.
Niagara Health reported 597 new doses were administered as of Tuesday morning.
A total of 22,750 doses have been administered in the region by Niagara Public Health in long-term care homes and high-risk retirement homes.
A total of 22,750 people have been vaccinated in Niagara Region by Niagara Public Health. Niagara Health says it has administered 43,983 vaccinations to health care staff.
The total number of vaccinations in the region is at 66,733. Against a population of 447,888 (2016 census), that means about 14.899 per cent of the region’s residents have been vaccinated so far.

The region reported 82 cases on Saturday, the highest daily case count since Jan. 29 when 90 cases were reported. Sunday and Monday’s numbers dropped back below 50. Tuesday’s numbers were back above 50 with 65 cases reported.
Case numbers have remained under the daily record of 471 cases on Jan. 11, the largest single-day jump ever seen in the region due in part to a backlog of cases being updated. Numbers also remained below the previous daily record of 196 reported on Friday, Jan. 8.
No new COVID-19 related deaths have been reported over the weekend or beginning of the week. The COVID-19 death count measured since the start of the pandemic is 375.
1,090 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 347,570 total cases, with 320,409 cases resolved. There are 1,090 cases in hospitals, with 387 in intensive care and 249 on ventilators.
Hospitalized cases increased by 249, the number of those in intensive care increased by five, and patients on ventilators increased by 13 since Monday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region now at 9,618 with 8,720 resolved. Of those cases, there are 523 active cases, up by 11 since Monday and 25 active outbreaks, down by one since Monday.
