Ontario reported 2,333 new cases of COVID-19 today, bringing the seven-day average to 2,316.
The Niagara Region reported 68 new cases today, an increase from yesterday’s report of 65.
There were also 15 new deaths reported in the province today. There have been 7,366 COVID-19 deaths in Ontario to date.
Niagara Region reported one COVID-19 death on Wednesday. In total, 375 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
“Ontario is reporting 2,333 cases of #COVID19 and over 52,500 tests completed. Locally, there are 785 new cases in Toronto, 433 in Peel, 222 in York Region, 153 in Hamilton, 124 in Ottawa and 120 in Durham,” said Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott on Wednesday morning.
Vaccine doses administered in Ontario and Niagara
More than 137,483 vaccine doses were administered in Canada on Wednesday bringing the total number of vaccines administered so far across the country to more than 5,608,367. That means that 12.889 per cent of the Canadian population has received at least one dose of the vaccine.
Over 89,873 of yesterday’s doses were given in Ontario, for a total of approximately 2,192,253 administered across the province so far. That’s 14.868 per cent of the provincial population.
Niagara Health reported 593 new doses were administered as of Wednesday morning.
A total of 23,343 doses have been administered in the region by Niagara Public Health in long-term care homes and high-risk retirement homes.

The total number of vaccinations in the region is at 68,730. Against a population of 447,888 (2016 census), that means about 15.345 per cent of the region’s residents have been vaccinated so far.

The region reported 82 cases on Saturday, the highest daily case count since Jan. 29 when 90 cases were reported. Sunday and Monday’s numbers dropped back below 50. Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s numbers were back above 50 with 65 cases and 68 cases reported.
Case numbers have remained under the daily record of 471 cases on Jan. 11, the largest single-day jump ever seen in the region due in part to a backlog of cases being updated. Numbers also remained below the previous daily record of 196 reported on Friday, Jan. 8.
No new COVID-19 related deaths have been reported over the weekend or beginning of the week. One new death was reported on Wednesday. The COVID-19 death count measured since the start of the pandemic is 376.
1,111 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 349,903 total cases, with 322,382 cases resolved. There are 1,111 cases in hospitals, with 396 in intensive care and 252 on ventilators.
Hospitalized cases increased by 21, the number of those in intensive care increased by nine, and patients on ventilators increased by three since Tuesday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region now at 9,686 with 8,765 resolved. Of those cases, there are 545 active cases, up by 22 since Wednesday and 27 active outbreaks, up by two since Wednesday.
