The Niagara Regional Police Service is warning the public about police training in Thorold that will involve simulated gunshots and the sound of explosions.

On Thursday and Friday this week, the Niagara Regional Police Service Explosive Disposal Unit and Emergency Task Unit will be conducting training in the area of Thorold Townline Road and Highway 20 in Thorold.

The training will occur between the hours of 9am and 4pm on both days.

An NRPS news bulletin said “Members of the public in the area should expect: An increased police presence. The sound of explosions. The smell of smoke. The sound of simulated gun shots.”

It said there will also be signage in the area. The police service asked that the public and media to “stay away from the training sites for their safety and the safety of the officers involved.”
