Ontario reported 384 new cases today, up from yesterday’s report of 296. This brings the seven-day average to 475.
Meanwhile, the Niagara Region reported 12 new cases today, down from yesterday’s report of 17.
There were also 12 new deaths reported in the province today. There have been 8,986 COVID-19 deaths in Ontario to date.
Niagara Region reported no new deaths today. In total, 411 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
“Ontario is reporting 384 cases of #COVID19 and nearly 28,100 tests completed. Locally, there are 71 new cases in Waterloo, 60 in Peel, 54 in Toronto, 23 in Middlesex-London and 21 in Ottawa,” said Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott on Wednesday morning.
Vaccine doses administered in Ontario and Niagara
More than 309,704 vaccine doses were administered in Canada on Wednesday bringing the total number of vaccines administered across the country to more than 30,227,556. That means that 65.122 per cent of the Canadian population has received at least one dose of the vaccine. Approximately 14.408 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated.
Over 202,984 of yesterday’s doses were given in Ontario, for a total of approximately 11,732,414 administered across the province so far. There are 2,198,715 people fully vaccinated. That’s 14.912 per cent of the provincial population.
Niagara Health reported 5,859 new doses were administered as of Wednesday morning.
A total of 138,750 doses have been administered in the region by Niagara Public Health in long-term care homes and high-risk retirement homes as of Wednesday.
The total number of vaccinations in the region is at 366,796. Against a population of 447,888 (2016 census), 64.2 per cent of the region’s residents have received at least one vaccination and 12.3 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Previous tier: Red-Control until April 8.
COVID cases remained under 20 over the weekend with 15 cases on Saturday and 14 cases on Sunday. There were six cases reported on Monday, the lowest daily case count since February 18 when three cases were reported. Cases rose to 17 cases on Tuesday and dropped to 12 on Wednesday.
Case numbers have remained under the daily record of 471 cases on Jan. 11, the largest single-day jump ever seen in the region due in part to a backlog of cases being updated. However, numbers surpassed the previous daily record of 196 reported on Jan. 8.
One new COVID-19 related death has been reported over the weekend. No new deaths were reported today. Since the start of the pandemic, the COVID-19 death count in the region is 411.
438 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 540,810 total cases, with 527,162 cases resolved. There are 438 cases in hospitals, with 377 in intensive care, and 242 on ventilators.
Hospitalized cases increased by five, and the number of those in intensive care increased by five, and the number of those on ventilators increased by two since Tuesday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region now at 16,085 with 15,381 resolved. Of those cases, there are 292 active cases, down by 19 since Tuesday and 10 active outbreaks, same as Tuesday.
