Ontario reports 370 new COVID-19 cases; Niagara Region reports 11

Ontario reported 370 new cases today, down from yesterday’s report of 384. This brings the seven-day average to 443.

Meanwhile, the Niagara Region reported 11 new cases today, down from yesterday’s report of 12.

There were also seven new deaths reported in the province today. There have been 8,993 COVID-19 deaths in Ontario to date.

Niagara Region reported no new deaths today. In total, 411 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.

“Ontario is reporting 370 cases of #COVID19 and nearly 30,500 tests completed. Locally, there are 67 new cases in Toronto, 57 in Waterloo, 47 in Peel, 34 in Ottawa and 27 in York Region,” said Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott on Thursday morning.

Vaccine doses administered in Ontario and Niagara

More than 388,404 vaccine doses were administered in Canada on Thursday bringing the total number of vaccines administered across the country to more than 30,768,030. That means that 65.418 per cent of the Canadian population has received at least one dose of the vaccine. Approximately 15.534 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated.

Over 210,611 of yesterday’s doses were given in Ontario, for a total of approximately 11,943,025 administered across the province so far. There are 2,371,035 people fully vaccinated. That’s 16.08 per cent of the provincial population.

Niagara Health reported 4,707 new doses were administered as of Thursday morning.

A total of 140,426 doses have been administered in the region by Niagara Public Health in long-term care homes and high-risk retirement homes as of Thursday.

The total number of vaccinations in the region is at 371,514. Against a population of 447,888 (2016 census), 64.4 per cent of the region’s residents have received at least one vaccination and 13.2 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Previous tier: Red-Control until April 8.

COVID cases remained under 20 over the weekend with 15 cases on Saturday and 14 cases on Sunday. There were six cases reported on Monday, the lowest daily case count since February 18 when three cases were reported. Cases rose to 17 cases on Tuesday and dropped to 12 on Wednesday. There were 11 cases reported on Thursday.

Case numbers have remained under the daily record of 471 cases on Jan. 11, the largest single-day jump ever seen in the region due in part to a backlog of cases being updated. However, numbers surpassed the previous daily record of 196 reported on Jan. 8.

One new COVID-19 related death has been reported over the weekend. No new deaths were reported today. Since the start of the pandemic, the COVID-19 death count in the region is 411.

397 cases in Ontario hospitals

Ontario has now had 541,180 total cases, with 527,797 cases resolved. There are 397 cases in hospitals, with 362 in intensive care, and 232 242 on ventilators.

Hospitalized cases decreased by 41, and the number of those in intensive care decreased by 15, and the number of those on ventilators decreased by 10 since Wednesday.

The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region now at 16,095 with 15,408 resolved. Of those cases, there are 276 active cases, down by 16 since Wednesday and eight active outbreaks, down by two since Wednesday.
