Ontario reported 296 new cases today, up from yesterday’s report of 270. This brings the seven-day average to 334.
Meanwhile, the Niagara Region reported seven new cases today, down from yesterday’s report of nine.
There were also 60 new deaths reported in the province today. The increase is mainly due to a data clean-up with 54 of those deaths being from previous days. There have been 9,082 COVID-19 deaths in Ontario to date.
Niagara Region reported one new death today. In total, 412 people have died from the coronavirus in the region.
“Ontario is reporting 296 cases of #COVID19 and nearly 16,800 tests completed. Locally, there are 123 new cases in Toronto, 61 in the Region of Waterloo, 37 in York Region and 20 in Peel Region,” said Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott on Tuesday morning.
Vaccine doses administered in Ontario and Niagara
More than 347,629 vaccine doses were administered in Canada on Tuesday bringing the total number of vaccines administered across the country to more than 32,933,898. That means that 66.205 per cent of the Canadian population has received at least one dose of the vaccine. Approximately 20.165 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated.
Over 199,535 of yesterday’s doses were given in Ontario, for a total of approximately 12,869,310 administered across the province so far. There are 3,145,372 people fully vaccinated. That’s about 21.331 per cent of the provincial population.
Niagara Health reported 4,987 new doses were administered as of Tuesday morning.
A total of 149,253 doses have been administered in the region by Niagara Public Health in long-term care homes and high-risk retirement homes as of Tuesday.
The total number of vaccinations in the region is at 396,356. Against a population of 447,888 (2016 census), 64.9 per cent of the region’s residents have received at least one vaccination and 17.8 per cent are fully vaccinated.

COVID cases remained under 15 over the weekend with seven cases on Saturday and 14 cases on Sunday. There were nine cases reported on Monday and seven reported on Tuesday.
Case numbers have remained under the daily record of 471 cases on Jan. 11, the largest single-day jump ever seen in the region due in part to a backlog of cases being updated. However, numbers surpassed the previous daily record of 196 reported on Jan. 8.
No new COVID-19 related deaths have been reported over the weekend. One new death was reported today. Since the start of the pandemic, the COVID-19 death count in the region is 412.
334 cases in Ontario hospitals
Ontario has now had 542,764 total cases, with 530,434 cases resolved. There are 334 cases in hospitals, with 314 in intensive care, and 202 on ventilators.
Hospitalized cases increased by 73, and the number of those in intensive care decreased by nine, and the number of those on ventilators stayed the same since Monday.
The total number of confirmed cases in the Niagara Region now at 16,145 with 15,518 resolved. Of those cases, there are 215 active cases, down by 24 since Monday, and nine active outbreaks, up by one since Monday.
