Niagara Falls Man Arrested in Fort Erie Facing Weapons Charges

On March 19, 2022, 5 District Fort Erie uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to a breach of release conditions call in Fort Erie.

Officers arrived on scene in the area of Niagara Boulevard and Bertie Street.  The initial investigation determined that a male suspect was believed to be violating court ordered release conditions not to be in the area.   Further investigation also determined that the suspect was alleged to have been involved in a weapon (knife) and threat incident the same day in the Gorham Road and Dominion Road area of Fort Erie.

The suspect had fled the property on foot shortly before officers arrived.  He was located a short distance away near Lewis Street and Kee Lane. He was arrested for failing to comply with a release order.

A search of the male following his arrest led to the discovery and seizure of the following:

Switch blade knife Two Glock style semi-automatic pellet handguns An axe machete Knife and black sheath (used in the weapon incident) A small quantity of suspected cocaine A “Preferred Customer Card” (in another person’s name, believed to be stolen)

Michael Vincent McGuire (31 years) of Niagara Falls was arrested and charged with the following offences:

Assault with a Weapon contrary to Section 267(a) of the Criminal Code Uttering Threats contrary to Section 264.1(2) of the Criminal Code Assault contrary to Section 266 of the Criminal Code Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon contrary to Section 91(2) of the Criminal Code Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to Section 88(1) of the Criminal Code Carrying a Concealed Weapon contrary to Section 90(1) of the Criminal Code Possession of a Schedule I Substance contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to Section 355(b) of the Criminal Code Fail to Comply with Release Order contrary to Section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code (2 Counts)

McGuire was held in custody and on March 20, 2022, attended a video bail hearing to the John Sopinka Court House in Hamilton.  He was held in custody where he remains.

5 District detectives continue to investigate McGuire.  Further charges are anticipated. Anyone with information is asked to call 905-688-4111, extension 1022300.
