Apartment Fire – Downtown St. Catharines

On Sunday April 3rd, 2022, at 6:15pm Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers assigned to 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) responded alongside St. Catharines Fire Department (SCFD) and Niagara Emergency Medical Service (NEMS) for a reported structure fire in the area of Ontario Street and Trafalgar Street, in the city of St. Catharines.

Upon arrival, a consistent stream of thick black smoke could be seen billowing out of a third story window.  Members from the St. Catharines Fire Department entered the building and located an unconscious 61-year-old female inside the third story apartment.  The female was transported to a local hospital by paramedics and subsequent flown to an out-of-town trauma centre with the assistance of Ornge Air Ambulance.  The female is currently in critical condition.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by 1 District detectives with the assistance of the Ontario Fire Marshall and St. Catharines Fire Prevention.  Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at 905-688-4111, extension #1008429.
