One Male in Custody After Dangerous Driving Incident – Wainfleet

On May 4th, 2022, at 1:45pm Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers assigned to 6 District (Port Colborne/Wainfleet) responded to the intersection of Regional Road 24 (Victoria Avenue) and Regional Road 27 in the Township of Wainfleet, for reports of a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle.

Upon arrival, officers located the injured motorcyclist, a 40-year-old male, who was assessed and transported to a local hospital by Niagara Emergency Medical Service (NEMS) paramedics.  The motorcyclist was determined to have suffered non-life threating injuries.

Investigation has revealed the motorcyclist was intentionally struck by the suspect, who was operating a stolen 2017 Toyota Corolla that was affixed with stolen licence plates.

The suspect Jason MARTTILA (48 years) of Welland has been arrested and is charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm

• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000

• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

• Mischief over $5000

MARTTILA has been held in custody pending a bail hearing that is scheduled to take place on May 5th, 2022, via video link to the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church Street, in the City of St. Catharines.
