On June 9th, 2022, at approximately 7:30pm Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers assigned to 3 District (Welland / Pelham) responded alongside the Welland Fire and Emergency Services for a reported structure fire at 358 Thorold Road, in the City of Welland.
Upon arrival, the unoccupied, single-family dwelling was determined by Welland Firefighters as they entered the building to have an insecure door. After the fire was extinguished, an investigation was commenced by 3 District NRPS detectives in partnership with the Welland Fire and Emergency Services – Fire Prevention Division. No injuries were sustained and the estimated damage is $10,000.
As the circumstances related to the fire are suspicious, detectives have classified this as an arson investigation and are appealing to members of the public who may have been in the area at the time of the incident.
Residents with CCTV footage that captures Thorold Road between Rice Road and Clare Avenue, and motorists who were in the area with an operational dash-camera, are encouraged to review their footage and contact the lead detective at 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009395 with any relevant information.
