On June 28, 2022, at 8:50 pm, 1 District St. Catharines uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in St. Catharines.
A member of the public contacted the NRPS Communications Unit after they watched a white 1999 Pontiac Grand-Am at the intersection of Lake Street and Dufferin Street in the City of St. Catharines strike a telephone pole and stop sign. The now damaged Pontiac then fled the scene.
At approximately 8:56 pm officers located the Pontiac in the area of Geneva Street at St. Paul Street. Out of a concern for public safety, multiple police cruisers strategically boxed the Pontiac in to prevent it from moving further.
The subsequent investigation by officers led to the arrest of the driver (the lone occupant of the Pontiac).
