Detectives from the NRPS Sexual Assault Unit continue to investigate this incident. As a result of the ongoing investigation detectives have identified the involved male and the Victoria Lawn Cemetery in St. Catharines.
No arrests have been made. The investigation remains ongoing.
There is no ongoing threat to public safety stemming from this incident.

On July 4, 2022, 1 District St. Catharines/Thorold uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of a sexual assault.
The initial investigation determined that the sexual assault occurred on July 4, 2022, between 8:30am and 9:30am in a cemetery in St. Catharines. The female victim is a ride-share driver who was sexually assaulted by an armed male customer in the cemetery. The sexual assault occurred in a white Nissan Altima.
The victim suffered minor physical injuries. She was treated at a local hospital.
Detectives from the NRPS Sexual Assault Unit have been assigned to the investigation. Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect and locating the cemetery.
The suspect is described as:
White male 34 years Brown short hair Forearm tattoos
The suspect was wearing:
Red shirt, dark pants with a red backpack
The investigation has determined that there may be a possible witness. A white male was seen walking through the cemetery with a black dog at the time of the sexual assault.
The victim and the suspect were not previously known to each other.

Anyone (residents or businesses) in the area of cemeteries with closed circuit security cameras, doorbell video cameras, or dash cameras are asked to review their footage for suspicious activity and the presence of a white Nissan Altima for the period between 8:15am and 9:45am on July 4, 2022.
