Detectives Seek to Identify Suspects in Robbery Investigation – St. Catharines – Update 1

Update 1

Detectives from the 1 District – St. Catharines / Thorold office of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) have been investigating this robbery. 

As a result of that ongoing investigation one of the suspects has been identified as a 14-year-old male from Welland.  On August 9, 2022 he was arrested and charged with the offences of:

Robbery Disguise with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence 

He was released from custody on a Form 10 Undertaking with a future court date.  As a result of the determining the identity of suspect 1 and that he is a youth, his photo has been removed from the original media release.   The Youth Criminal Justice Act of Canada Prohibits the NRPS from identifying persons under 18 years of age.

The identity of suspect 2 remains unknown and under investigation.

Suspect 2 – Photos

 

Original Release – August 6, 2022

On June 16th, 2022, at 2:34pm Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers assigned to 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) responded to convenience store near the intersection of Lake Street and Russell Avenue, in the city of St. Catharines regarding a robbery that just occurred.

Initial investigation determined suspect #1 entered the store and proceeded to take consumable goods from a shelf, while suspect #2 stood outside and kept watch.  When the actions of suspect #1 were observed by the store clerk, he was confronted and a struggled ensued.  Suspect #2 then entered the store and assisted in the facilitation of the theft by using physical force to overcome the store clerk.

1 District detectives have assumed carriage of the investigation.  Video surveillance has been acquired and detectives are appealing to members of the public for assistance identifying the suspects involved.

The description of the suspects is as follows:

Suspect #1

–        Male

–        White

–        18-25 years of age

–        5’9” tall

–        170lbs

–        Short dark hair

–        Wearing an orange Timberland t-shirt

–        Wearing black shorts

–        Wearing black and white shoes

Suspect #2

–        Male

–        18-25 years of age

–        6’1” tall

–        160lbs

–        Medium length black curly hair

–        Wearing a hooded sweatshirt with images of Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un

–        Wearing black shorts

–        Wearing white shoes
