Sexual Assault Detectives Seeking to Identify Suspect – St. Catharines

On March 15th, 2022, Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers assigned to 1 District (St. Catharines / Thorold) responded to a local hospital regarding a sexual assault investigation.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the female victim who indicated she met an adult male on a social media networking application.  The male was invited into the female’s room, located at the DeCew Residence associated to Brock University, in the City of St. Catharines.  While inside the room an interaction consisting of an alleged sexual assault took place.  The victim sustained no physical injuries.

Detectives assigned to the NRPS Sexual Assault Unit (SAU) are investigating this incident and are appealing to members of the public for assistance identifying the suspect.  The suspect is described as follows:

–          Male

–          South Asian

–          5’10” tall

–          170lbs.

–          Black hair

–          Blue hooded sweatshirt

–          Grey track pants

–          White shoes

The suspect is believed to have left the scene driving a dark colored four-door BMW.

As a result of the investigation detectives have learned that the suspect’s name or nick name may be “Zain” and that he may live in the Greater Toronto Area.

Detectives believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no known threat to public safety. The NRPS SAU and Brock University have worked to provide support services to the victim over the course of the investigation.
