Stabbing Incident on Ker Street in Niagara Falls Results in Two Arrests

On October 14th, 2022, at 5:16pm Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers assigned to 2 District (Niagara Falls / Niagara-on-the-Lake) responded to an assault in progress at a residential address in the area of Ker Street and Drummond Road, in the City of Niagara Falls.

Upon arrival, officers determined an altercation occurred involving two adult males known to one and other.  What began as a verbal argument escalated to a physical confrontation and ultimately a knife was drawn.  One victim sustained multiple stab wounds and was assessed at the scene by Niagara Emergency Medical Service (NEMS) paramedics before being transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.  The victim sustained serious non-life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital.

Detectives assigned to the 2 District Criminal Investigative Branch have assumed carriage of the investigation.  They are being assisted by members of the Forensic Services Unit.

Burke PEMBLETON (39 years) of Niagara Falls has been arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

• Assault with a weapon

• Fail to comply with probation

PEMBLETON was released on a Form 10 Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church Street, in the City of St. Catharines on January 16th, 2023. 

John HICKS (48 years) of Niagara Falls has been arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offence:

• Aggravated assault

HICKS was held for a bail hearing that took place on October 15th, 2022, via video link to the John Sopinka Courthouse located at 45 Main Street East, in the City of Hamilton.  HICKS was remanded into the custody of Ontario Correctional Services and is scheduled to re-appear in bail court on October 17th, 2022, via video link to the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church Street, in the City of St. Catharines.
