At approximately 7:45am on Friday June 16, 2023, 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) Uniform officers were called to the area of Third Street Louth and Fifth Avenue Louth following the report of a serious motor vehicle collision.
When they arrived, along with Niagara Emergency Medical Services (NEMS) paramedics, they located an 86 year old St. Catharines female passenger of an older model Toyota Camry with vital signs absent. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The 81 year old male driver, also from St. Catharines, had to be extricated from the vehicle by members of St. Catharines Fire Services before being transported to hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.
Investigation by Detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit has revealed that the Camry was stopped and then entered the path of an oncoming Dodge Ram pickup truck towing a trailer.
No one else was physically injured as a result of the collision.
At this time the investigation remains ongoing and no charges have been laid.
The truck trailer was towed to the Vineland Weigh Station where the Ministry of Transportation assisted with the investigation, while the City of St. Catharines and Fire Department assisted with oil contaminant clean up following the collision.
