NRPS Detectives Investigating Downtown St. Catharines Assault / Stabbing

On July 1, 2023, at 2:20am emergency service personnel responded to a report of a stabbing in downtown St. Catharines.

Officers arrived on scene in the area of St. Paul Street and Garden Park (near Carlisle Street). A male victim in his 20s was located suffering serious injuries from a physical beating and having been stabbed.  The victim was treated at the scene and transported by Niagara EMS paramedics to an out of region hospital for what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

 1 District (St. Catharines / Thorold) uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) along with an NRPS K9 Unit attended the scene. The initial investigation determined that victim had an argument with a group people in front of a nightclub on James Street near St. Paul Street. The argument escalated into a physical fight in the area of St. Paul Street and Garden Park. The physical fight continued to the front doors of a near by hotel on St. Paul Street near Carlisle Street. Two male suspects then ran from the area. Officers were unable to find the suspects.

The investigation has been assigned to 1 District detectives who are being aided by the Forensic Services Unit. Detectives are continuing to develop suspect descriptions. The suspects are both males one being White and one Black.

Anyone (residents or businesses) in the area with closed circuit security cameras, doorbell video cameras, or dash cameras are asked to review their footage for suspicious activity for the period between 1:45am and 3:00am on July 1, 2022.
