Niagara Region Public Health confirmed 10 new Covid-19 cases over the weekend and five new cases as of today. This brings the number of cases for the previous week to 30 and the total number of confirmed cases to 901.
There are currently 46 active cases and six active outbreaks in the region.
Although the total numbers of confirmed cases continue to rise Niagara region, the death rate has remained relatively stable over the past few months.
On July 10, 2020, the Niagara region saw its first COVID-19 related death in over a month bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths to 62. Since then, the region has reported only two more pandemic-related deaths, bringing the total number to 64.
The region has also reported that 86.2 per cent of cases have been treated at home. Only three per cent of cases have been admitted to intensive care and 10.8 per cent of cases have been hospitalized.
Province wide in Ontario, there were 115 new confirmed cases over the weekend. This is this first day, after a week-long streak, that Ontario has reported case numbers over 100. Health Minister Christine Elliot also noted that 28 public health units reporting five or few cases and 18 units reporting no new cases.
In other COVID-19 news in Ontario, Windsor-Essex will be allowed to move into Stage 3 on Wednesday. Once the outlier health unit joins the rest of the province, all of Ontario will be in the 3rd stage of the Ontario reopening plan.
