Detectives Investigating Fatal Collision in St. Catharines – Update 1 – ARREST

Update 1 – ARREST

On Thursday, June 20th, 2024 Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit arrested a male in relation to this incident.

Darren ROGERS (60 years old) of Pelham has been arrested and charged with the following offences:

Dangerous Operation Causing Death – Section 320.13(3) – Criminal Code of Canada Careless Driving Causing Death – Section 130(3) – Highway Traffic Act

He was held pending a bail hearing that is expected to take place on June 20, 2024 at the Robert S.K Welch Courthouse, located at 59 Church Street in the City of St. Catharines.

On Thursday, May 23, 2024, at approximately 2:40pm, 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service attended the area of St Paul Street West and Third Street Louth in the City of St. Catharines in response to a serious motor vehicle collision. 

Investigation revealed a 60 year old male was operating a grey Toyota Tundra southbound on Third Street Louth. Subsequently, a 60 year old female was operating a motorcycle eastbound on St. Paul Street West when both vehicles collided in the intersection at this location.  The female driver was ejected from her motorcycle.

Tragically, the adult female was pronounced deceased at a local hospital. 

The investigation remains ongoing by detectives with the Collision Reconstruction Unit, the Forensic Services Unit and the officer of the Coroner.
