Male Arrested on Multiple Weapon Charges in Thorold

On June 23, 2024, at approximately 9:50am, 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service  attended the area of Pine Street N and Albert Street W, in the City of Thorold in response to an assault call.

Investigation revealed that a male and a female were at this location when a male suspect walked up to the male and struck him in the head with a pistol then threatened to do the same to the female.

As a result of the investigation detectives were able to identify the male suspect.

On June 24, 2024, detectives executed a warrant and seized the following items:

Shotgun Ammunition 2 airsoft handguns

Jonathan V Barry (39 years old) of Thorold was arrested and charged with the following offences:

Assault with a weapon (2 Counts) Careless storage of firearm Ammunition: Careless storage Firearm: Tampering with serial number Firearm: Use while committing offence Firearm: Unauthorized possession Firearm: Knowledge of unauthorized possession Firearm: Possession contrary to Order (3 Counts) Disobeying Court Order 

Barry was held in custody pending a bail hearing that is expected to take place on June 24, 2024, at the Robert S.K Welch Courthouse, located at 59 Church Street in the City of St. Catharines.
