On August 28, 2024, at 4:22am Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers assigned to 3 District (Welland / Pelham) responded to an assault that just occurred in the area surrounding the Welland Bus Terminal located at 160 East Main Street, in the City of Welland.
Upon arrival, officers learned a 45 year old female had been struck in the head with a blunt object. The victim was assessed at the scene by Niagara Emergency Medical Service (NEMS) paramedics with the assistance of fire personnel from the Welland Fire & Emergency Services. The victim was transported to an out-of-region hospital by paramedics and has since been released.
Responding officers conducted the initial investigation that led to the identity of the suspect. Officers located the suspect nearby and placed her under arrest.
Brittany Taylor THOMAS-THOMPSON (25 years) of no fixed address has been arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm, contrary to section 267(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
THOMAS-THOMPSON remains in police custody at this time and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing via video link to the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse, located at 59 Church Street in the City of St. Catharines later today (August 28, 2024).
Detectives assigned to the 3 District Criminal Investigative Branch have assumed carriage of the investigation. They are being supported by detectives assigned to the Forensic Services Unit. Area residents and businesses are being asked to review their surveillance footage and contact the lead detective by dialing 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1008980 with any relevant information.
