On August 30, 2024, 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a threats call for service in St. Catharines.
The initial investigation determined that a man and woman had been in a relationship that ended in January of 2024. The man had recently been in contact with the female and threatened harm to her and her property.
The investigation was assigned to detectives from the NRPS Domestic Violence Unit. Further investigation found information that the male may illegally be in possession of firearms. On August 31, 2024, detectives obtained a search warrant for the male’s Niagara Falls home for evidence. The search warrant was executed at a home in the area of Glenholme Avenue and High Street with the assistance of 2 District (Niagara Falls / Niagara on the Lake) uniform officers and the NRPS Emergency Task Unit.
As a result of the search warrant detectives seized the following:
A sawed off shot gun High powered pellet rifles 1 BB revolver 35.5 grams of suspected cocaine 20.4 grams of suspected fentanyl 30.2 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine
A 48-year-old man from Niagara Falls has been arrested and charged with the criminal offences of:
Uttering Threats (2 Counts) Fail to Comply – Probation Order (7 Counts) Fail to Comply – Release Order (7 Counts) Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – cocaine Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – fentanyl Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – crystal methamphetamine Possession of Proceeds Crime Under $5000 Tampering with Serial Number – Firearm (2 Counts) Possess Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order Careless Storage of a Firearm Knowingly Possess a Firearm Without a Licence No Firearms Licence
The man was held in custody for a video bail hearing to the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on September 1, 2024. The identity of the man is not being release as it may lead to the identification of the victim.
