Males Arrested Following Theft Investigation on Lake Erie Break Wall – Port Colborne – UPDATE 1

On January 15, 2025, Niagara Regional Police Service 6 District (Port Colborne / Wainfleet) uniform officers and NRPS Marine Unit officers attended the marina area near H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park in Port Colborne for a theft in progress call for service.  The NRPS had received reports of two suspects stealing wire/cable.

Marine Unit officers arrested two males that had ventured out onto the ice on bicycles and went to the Lake Erie break wall. The males were seen stripping wire/cable from the break wall.

Timothy Charles Pye (45 yrs.) of Port Colborne was arrested and charged with the Criminal Code offences of:

Theft Over $5000 Fail to Comply with a Probation Order

Stephen Grant Kelly (52 yrs.) of Welland was arrested and charged with the Criminal Code offences of:

Theft Over $5000 Possession of Break-in Instruments Fail to Comply with Probation   

Pye and Kelly were held in custody for a video bail hearing to the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on January 16, 2025.

A damage estimate has not been fully determined.
