Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) Chief of Police Bill Fordy has been selected to receive the King Charles III Coronation Medal in recognition of his outstanding contributions to public safety, crime prevention, and community leadership.
Technology Services Director Akram Askoul has also been chosen for the honour, recognized for his significant contributions in the field of information technology. Both Chief Fordy and Director Askoul were selected by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police to receive this prestigious award.
The King Charles III Coronation Medal is presented to individuals who have made a meaningful impact on Canada—whether nationally, provincially, regionally, or within their local communities—or have achieved excellence abroad that brings credit to the country.
Niagara Police Service Board Chair Pat Chiocchio praised Chief Fordy’s achievements, stating, “This distinguished honour reflects Chief Fordy’s dedication, unwavering commitment to policing and public safety, and the profound impact he has made in Niagara, as well as at the provincial and national levels. It is a testament to the respect and admiration he has earned.” Chair Chiocchio also expressed the Board’s pride in Director Askoul’s recognition, highlighting the importance of his contributions to the NRPS and the broader community.
Chief Fordy brings 36 years of extensive policing experience with the NRPS and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Before joining NRPS as Deputy Chief, he served as RCMP Assistant Commissioner, overseeing all operational and administrative policing matters in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland District. Throughout his career, he has managed complex policing operations, significant budgets at all levels of government, and high-profile investigations. He has also led teams through states of emergency and is well-versed in government relations. A champion of strategic initiatives that enhance community policing and organizational efficiency, Chief Fordy continues to be a strong and impactful leader within NRPS and beyond.

Administered by the Chancellery of Honours, the King Charles III Coronation Medal commemorates His Majesty’s accession as King of Canada. A presentation ceremony will take place in Ottawa on March 26.
