Welland Man Arrested for Weapons Incident

On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at approximately 12 p.m., officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) 3 District (Welland/Pelham) office responded to a report of a male armed with a gun in the City of Welland.

Police quickly attended an apartment on Ontario Road between Southworth Road and Wright Street. The initial investigation determined that the male suspect had been involved in a verbal argument that escalated, at which point he armed himself with a weapon.

The male suspect was contained within the apartment by uniformed officers. The NRPS Emergency Task Unit (ETU) and crisis negotiators were called in to take carriage of the scene.

Shortly before 1 p.m., the suspect surrendered to ETU officers and was arrested.

The firearm involved was determined to be a replica.

Alexander Lampman, 21, of Welland, was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose Uttering threats Assault with a weapon

Lampman was held for a bail hearing scheduled to take place at the courthouse at 59 Church St. in St. Catharines on May 21, 2025.

Police do not believe there is any further threat to the public regarding this incident.
